Happy Halloween
So last week, my housemates and I went to a Halloween party. It was a last minute decision and we had to try and russel up our costumes with things that we found around the house. While I went as a cat (original I know) my housemates decided to go as a bat (very spooky) and a leopard (dead of course), and I had the pleasure of doing their make-up.
I was actually nicely surprised with how they came out and thought I would share some pictures.
To create this bat inspired eye make-up, I first lined Holly's eyes with black eyeliner pencil and following her eyebrow, drew an outline of a wing to the side of her eyes. I then shaded the farthest part of the wing in with the eyeliner to make it super dark. I covered her lid in gold dazzle dust gradually using a darker shade of brown at the outer edges and nearer her eyebrow. I followed this with black and grey eye shadow to blend into the wing.I then stuck some rather large fake eyelashes on her, and voila.
Katie had decided to go as leopard, so I wanted to create the leopard print pattern on her eyelids. I first covered her lid in the gold dazzle dust (from Barry M...it works like a dream) and heavily lined her eyes with black eye liner (the liquid liner works best for this). Then using a small brush, I used a darker shade of brown and made lots of patches on top of the gold, before using the liquid liner to draw an outline around these patches to make the stand out more and look more leopard-y. I carried this pattern out to a point near her hairline and used some of the gold to dust slightly underneath her eye to even it out. We then stuck on some more 'feline' looking eyelashes on her, and hey presto, we have a leopard. Her lips look really good, and this was one of those temporary lip tattoos you can buy, I think she got hers from ASOS. We then added a bit of blood to add to the scare factor...as after all it was Halloween.

Feather Skirts. Bloody love them.

When I first saw them out and about I was a bit dubious, wasn't sure whether I like them or not, but I have come to the conclusion that I need one of these feathered beauties in my life. Look so classy and elegant as party wear (and party season is coming up WAHOOO) teamed with something sequin and sparkly will look amaze (maybe a bit drag queen...but it's Christmas soo meh...you'll fit right into a pantomime) .. but they also look SO GOOD with something more masculine such as an over sized blazer (white is the new black this season darling) or toughened up with a leather jacket. Beaut. GET IN MY WARDROBE!

(I love this Matthew Williamson sequin and feather dress (£2,995....eaaaap) I can dream.... but this Mango black feathered skirt is very cute and would look lovely with a fitted sequin top (£114.90))

Goddess
Ellie Goulding recently put this picture of herself on her twitter. She looks absolutely incredible.
Priding herself on her strength, Ellie viciously trains for about 2 hours every day, and is well known for her love of running. It's important to her to remain strong in the industry she is in. In an interview with the Evening Standard, she said: "To me, running is about survival. Literally wanting to survive. So much can go wrong in life. I could lose everything, but I'd still have my strength. And it's a lot of strength. I pride myself on that."
I will look like that.....one day :P

Street Style
Over the last week I have been doing work experience for media wales in Cardiff, and was sent out onto the streets to snap up the best dressed people. Here's what I found :)
Connie Song, 23, IPR Student at Cardiff, from China.
Connie caught my eye with her smart and tailored look in complimentary colours, managing to put an individual stamp on her preppy outfit helping her stand out from the crowd.
A clear mix of high-street clothing which has been styled-up with designer accessories, I love how a classic look has been updated with her quirky Vivienne Westwood shoes.
Connie says: “A lot of what I own is from China, but I do love Topshop.” she goes on to say, “I enjoy mixing my style up with high-street and designer pieces.”
STEAL CONNIE’S STYLE: Vivienne Westwood shoes, Topshop trousers, top and blazer, belt from China, Mulberry bag and Tiffany necklace.
Mia Wu, 23, Cardiff IPR graduate, from China.Mia’s classic and elegant look caught my eye for its simplicity and style.
She says: “I’ve just graduated so am looking quite smart today, but I didn’t want to go for a dress, I preferred the trouser suit.”
Her eye-catching Chanel bag sets off the outfit, with her shoes adding and element of quirkiness to what would normally be a more reserved look, which Mia has managed to steer clear from.
“I really like these shoes, they’re a bit different and they’re plastic.”
STEAL MIA’S STYLE: Vivienne Westwood shoes, Zara trousers and jacket, Mango shirt and Chanel bag.
Mana Tsumuki, 24, Fine Art UWIC graduate, from Japan.
I loved the eclectic mix of patterns and colours that went into Mana’s outfit.
She says: “I like patterns and bright colours, especially blue and red.”
Her kooky style is certainly a bit different but works extremely well, evidently reflecting her passion in art.
“I would describe my style as quite individual and just wear what I like.”
STEAL MANA’S STYLE: Office shoes, Skirt from Japan, Topshop top, Mango cardigan and Laura Ashley bag.
Alan Vanstone, 22, Creative Technology Glamorgan student from Southampton.Alan’s laid back and casual look in muted tones seems effortlessly cool and it turns out that it is.
He says: “I don’t really think about what I wear, I just dress however I can be bothered to in the morning.”
I like how he has thrown his sleeveless hoodie over his t-shirt for an outcome that is still stylish but doesn’t look too ‘try-hard’.
STEAL ALAN’S STYLE: Topman t-shirt and shoes, River Island sleeveless hoodie, Urban Outfitters trousers, necklace and watch from Sydney.
Marjorie Ferrier, late 60s.Marjorie most definitely has style and is well-known around Cardiff for her amazing outfits.
Showing us that style clearly has no limits in terms of age, Marjorie loves her vintage as well as new designer pieces. She says: “I must confess I’m really designer. I’ve always bought designer clothes as they are classic and last forever - they invest in a good fabric and design.”
And this lady know really knows how to accessorise, brightening up her taste in paler colours with fabulous jewellery.
“At the moment my favourite shop in Cardiff is Howells, House of Fraser,” she goes on to say, “I used to have my own shop called ‘crackers’ which sold lots of designer labels like Armani. My headband is from the Claire Collection from my shop, and I loved it because it was knitted. I always wear a headband.”
STEAL MARJORIE’S STYLE: Austin Reed Jacket, Sonia Morhan dress, Louis Vuitton bag, Office shoes. Necklaces from Jaeger and Vivienne Westwood, Swarovski bracelets, earings from San Francisco and sunglasses from America.
Sarah-Greys Morris, 19, Journalism student at UWIC, from Blackwood.Sarah-Greys’ ‘pretty’ look immediately caught my attention as she emerged from the crowd.
Her smart yet stylish outfit highlighted her personality, with bursts of understated colour, her favourite being “corals and beige”. She says: “I’ve just come from an interview so don’t usually dress this smart.”
Simple and not too fussy, Sarah-Greys outfit is complimented with her matching statement bag and shoes.
She goes on to say: “I love high street clothes, and would say that Sienna Miller is probably my biggest style icon.”
STEAL SARAH-GREYS’ STYLE: Miss Selfridge trousers and blouse, Topshop top, Urban Outfitters bag and shoes and Thomas Sabo charm bracelet.

Don't underestimate four year-olds
I saw this on the internet and thought it was really sweet, so have re-posted it for you all to see:
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, “What does love mean?”
The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” Rebecca- age 8
“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” Billy – age 4
“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” Karl – age 5
“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” Chrissy – age 6
“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” Terri – age 4
“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” Danny – age 7
“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss” Emily – age 8
“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)
“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,” Nikka – age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” Noelle – age 7
“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” Tommy – age 6
“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.” Cindy – age 8
“My mommy loves me more than anybody You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.” Clare – age 6
“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” Elaine-age 5
“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.” Chris – age 7
“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” Mary Ann – age 4
“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.” Lauren – age 6
“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” (what an image)
Karen – age 7
“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.” Mark – age 6
“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” Jessica – age 8
And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry”

Magazines
Magazines are to me what alcohol is to alcoholics. I can't get enough of them. There is something that makes you feel immensely better when reading a magazine and discovering something new within its glossy pages.
I love looking back at old copies after several years to see how things have changed and yet at the same time stayed the same.
Magical.

Magical.
Girls are like
apples on trees. The best
ones are at the top of the tree.
The boys don't want to reach for
the good ones because they are afraid
of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they
just get the rotten apples from the ground
that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples
at the top think something is wrong with
them, when in reality, they're amazing.
They just have to wait for the right
boy to come along, the one
who's brave enough
to climb
all the way
to the top
of the tree.

Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do you do? You swim, swim, swim.
Swimming has pretty much been my life since I was five years old. My mum has told me stories about taking me swimming when I was a little girl.
Before I had even learnt to swim I had always loved the water....everything about it excited me. The way it felt on your skin, the way it moved so effortlessly and how you would appear weightless bobbing up and down in the pool. As soon as I was old enough (a couple of months) my parents took me swimming, and when I could walk and talk, I used to beg and plead with them to let me sit on the bottom of the pool. Obviously they refused as I hadn't learnt to swim, so when I knew they weren't looking I would make my great escape running to the deep end and plunging into the water, to sit on the bottom of the pool staring up at them with my big blue eyes as they came chasing after me. Eventually they learnt to let me have my way (stubborn little thing I was) and they would wait a few seconds while i sat contently on the bottom of the pool before fishing me out. I used to be jealous of fish, as I too wanted gills so I could swim for hours without needing to surface for breath (LOL).
I joined a swimming club when I was five and stayed there swimming socially and competitively until I was 18 (before socialising and alcohol became the main focus of my life), often swimming four times a week. I met my best friends at that club who I still see even now and always look forward to meeting up with when I come home from Uni.
Over the past few years I have barely swum at all, which as sad as it sounds, really does upset me - it feels like a part of me is missing. However, over the last couple of months, I have tried to go as often as I can, gradually building up my strength and stamina.
I went swimming this morning before I started work, and I had honestly forgotten how good it feels. Your mind focuses on swimming alone, you don't think about anything else - it doesn't matter, and you automatically feel stress free. Even now, 10 hours later, I still feel fantastic. I suppose what swimming does to me, is what yoga does to others. It really is a feeling that no words can express. I think it is and always will remain an important part of my life.
I want to watch finding nemo now......

Globe trotting
This year many of my friends are away doing a year abroad as part of their courses in uni...and I'm not going to lie...I'm extremely jealous.
My friend Madi is in Oklahoma but has been road tripping all around America and it really does sound like she is having the time of her life! :)
Jess is away living in Nantes in France, and she regularly updates her blog with some hilarious stories.
And Phi has been living in Italy at the moment and is about to spend the second half of her year in Spain.
A-MAZ-ING
It's such an amazing opportunity and will be something they are going to remember for the rest of their lives and I'm sooo glad they are having a wonderful time (although I do miss them).
It has made me realise that I would really love to go travelling when I have finished uni, as I really want to see the world and think this would be the best time to go.....had better get saving really!

This is my friend Alice on the elephant when she went to Nepal!
Go fuck yourself... you love yourself enough
I can't stand the type of people who think they're better than everyone else. It really gets on my tits. I don't know why some people think they have the right to put others down or laugh at them behind their backs for trying...
Unfortunately I have a few friends who have this mindset, and they act like they are the most important people in the world. What they do is the only thing that matters in their eyes and nothing else comes close...
Need to be knocked off their high horses...but that's just my opinion. :)

BJTC visit
On Friday we had a manic day as the BJTC (broadcast journalism training council) came in to have a look at what we have been doing with ourselves on the course.
We came in at 9 to have a multi-media rolling news day which was very fun and extremely exciting but a tad stressful.
We had a few of us making 5 minute TV bulletins every hour, radio students (including me) were making 3 minute news bulletins every half hour, whilst the online guys were frantically putting everything up on the web.
I had the joys of being the radio news reader which although was exciting, also meant I had a huge responsibility upon my shoulders, as, if the slightest thing went wrong or I would miss-read it would be all my fault....luckily things didn't go too shabbily after having a few slip ups in previous bulletins earlier on in the day. We got our own local audio by going out on the streets of Farnham and hassling the public for interviews and also gathered information from press lines, the police and ambulance contact lines as well as the Internet.
All in all the day was a great success and we trotted off to the pub to celebrate. Our lecturer decided to set up a tab for us behind the bar but after accumulating £150 in 10 mins he decided it perhaps wasn't such a good idea...but still...what a legend.
A messy 12 hours later and I was home for a 3 hour sleep before a full day of work. Joys of Joys, but it was definitely worth it. I gained a much better understanding of what it would actually be like working in the industry, whilst at the same time managing to work well under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
Here are a few bits and bobs we created throughout the day :) enjoy
Click here to see behind the scenes of the making of the TV news bulletin
And here is the finished bulletin! Fantastic work by the TV guys...

I love going to an art uni. You learn so much from others around you doing different courses and you can all help and inspire each other with what you do.
I don't think I would be the person I am today if I had not decided to come here.
I am also enjoying my course more and more everyday...and we all have a much stronger bond this year.
It is fantastic...I'm not gonna lie <3
